    Itinerary

Ausangate Trek with Rainbow Mountain Itinerary

    Day 1: Cusco – Ocongate – Antacalle – Upis – Pucacocha

This day we will pick you up early from your hotel in Cusco and then head south of Cusco, heading to Ocongate. During this stretch, we will pass through typical towns in the region such as Saylla, Oropesa, Urcos, and Cattca.

After Ocongate, we will arrive at Tinke, which serves as the entrance to the Ausangate Circuit. From Tinke, our transport will take us to Antacalle, where we will begin our hike.
In Antacalle, our team will be waiting for us to start the hike. Our muleteers and horses will carry all the equipment for this beautiful trek through Ausangate.

The hike from Antacalle to Upis is relatively easy and offers stunning andean landscapes. Along the way, we may encounter South American camelids such as llamas, alpacas, and, if we’re fortunate, vicuñas. After reaching Upis, we will ascend to the Arapa Pass, which is the highest point of today’s hike.

From the Arapa Pass, we will descend through a small valley, crossing lakes including Yanacocha, Huchu pucacocha, and Pucacocha, until we arrive at the Pucacocha camp. This marks the end of the first day’s hike.

    Day 2: Pucacocha – Pucaqasa – Ananta – Warmisaya – Surinacocha.

On this day, we will be within the Ausangate Regional Conservation Area. After breakfast, we will begin our ascent to one of the most stunning viewpoints in Ausangate: Pucaqasa. This unique location offers a breathtaking view of approximately seven lagoons. While we are there, we will also have the opportunity to make a small offering to Mother Earth, or Pachamama. After our visit, we will descend to Ananta for lunch.

After lunch, we will ascend to Warmisaya Pass, which provides a stunning view. From this vantage point, we will be able to see Rainbow Mountain in the distance.

Following our time at Warmisaya Pass, we will descend to Surinacocha Lagoon, where we will set up camp for the day.

Day 3: Surinacocha – Rainbow Mountain – Red Valley – Cusipata – Cusco

This morning, we began our hike very early to reach Rainbow Mountain first. Over the past nine years, Rainbow Mountain has become one of the most visited attractions in Cusco, second only to Machu Picchu. This unique geological formation showcases a stunning array of colors, which are the result of various minerals found in the region. Rainbow Mountain is truly a beautiful natural wonder.

After our visit, we will descend until we reach the Red Valley, a natural formation that is part of the Vilcanota mountain range. We will cross this beautiful valley until we arrive at Llaqto, where our transportation will be waiting to take us back to Cusco.

Llaqto will also be the place where we say goodbye to part of our team, including our muleteers and horses.
We will arrive in Cusco in the afternoon and drop you off at your hotel. This concludes our beautiful tour of one of Cusco’s most important snow-capped mountains, Ausangate, and one of Cusco’s most visited natural attractions, Rainbow Mountain.
